Exhumation of 182 unidentified July martyrs begins Sunday
This news article reports that Bangladesh's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will begin exhuming the remains of 182 unidentified martyrs buried at Rayerbazar Cemetery in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, starting Sunday. The exhumation was ordered by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman on August 4, following a police petition, and will involve collecting DNA samples in the presence of forensic expert Dr. Luis Fondebrider and senior CID officials. The martyrs died during the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement (quota reform protests), and the exhumation aims to identify the unidentified victims through forensic examination, after which the remains will be reburied following proper protocols.
