July Declaration - Wikipedia

Summary of the July Declaration The July Declaration (জুলাই ঘোষণাপত্র) is an official document announced by Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on 5 August 2025, marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League government. The declaration contains 28 commitments that formally recognize the 2024 student-led uprising, reject the political framework of the former Awami League government, and outline goals including constitutional restructuring, democratic reforms, free and fair elections, and accountability for alleged crimes such as extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances. The document is retroactively dated to 5 August 2024 and calls for its eventual inclusion in Bangladesh's constitution. It has received mixed reactions, with some political parties and leaders endorsing it, while others — including Islamist groups, leftist parties, the National Citizen Party, and British journalist David Bergman — criticized it for being incomplete, politically selective, or factually one-sided in its portrayal of the Awami League era.
